Congratulations to Layla Davis of Columbia, SC — winner of SCCADVASA’s “What it Means to ‘Be A Man’ in 2021” social media contest!

Layla’s winning submission is featured above. This winning piece of original art is currently being shared via SCCADVASA’s social media channels, print marketing, and will be on display via digital and print billboards throughout S.C. between March 15 – April 24, 2021.

Did you know only 33% of teens who were in an abusive relationship ever told anyone? Moreover, due to societal pressures and expectations, men are less likely to report abuse. In her original artwork, Layla Davis felt compelled to highlight that abuse can occur regardless of gender or sexual orientation. “The stigma that doesn’t allow men to express what’s happening to them causes many domestic abuse cases to go unmentioned. My drawing was an attempt at portraying the “men don’t cry” mentality, and the psychological trauma that men undergo in cases of domestic abuse.” – Layla Davis

It is our hope that this piece will continue the conversation around masculinity and healthy relationships amongst SC teens.
